FACE®
Campaign
What is involved in FACE? How will it be delivered?
How will the impact of this programme be evaluated?
The FACE campaign is a health awareness intervention programme
geared at young people.
FACE stands for:
Faithfulness
Abstinence
Condom use
Education
This is a good campaign concept that is adapted and integrated
into workshops that are targeting teenagers. FACE is a two-tier
campaign: the first phase emphasising reduction of sexual
partners with the aim to abstain from sex until adulthood
primarily designed to develop refusal tactics and increase
one’s self control; the second phase questions the
sexual practices of teenagers in general, where protection
and basic awareness are addressed.
The FACE campaign will be incorporated into planned education
workshops, to keep in touch with the trends and challenges
of youth. The use of youth participatory techniques in HIV/AIDS
awareness is crucial at this preventive stage, to increase
behavioural change and provide access to knowledge, skills
and attitude all currently vital in youth development. FACE
hopes to do this through motivational support coupled with
modern, strategically designed educational materials such
as pamphlets, posters and information packages on current
HIV/AIDS issues and prevention and T-shirts, key-chains
and CD for promotional value.
The objective of the FACE campaign is to evoke a positive
response and interest from youth and an evaluation will
be conducted to ascertain the impact of this programme.
This study will follow other successful campaigns that are
currently running in other countries, where running surveys
before, during and after campaigning assesses the outcomes.
Through the use of pertinent psychosocial scales, the evaluation
of this programme will give an overview of current issues
in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention, which will aid the reviewing
of needs assessments and analysis of the effectiveness of
promotional material aimed at youth. |
