Safer Sex
Leaflet
"How
many people did you say you've slept with?"
Think the answer's simple?
THINK AGAIN
Even if it's your first time,
you're indirectly linked to everyone your partner has slept
with and all the people that their partners have slept with
- ever!
If you look at it like that, it's easy to see how infections
spread.
It's not just your partner you're sharing if you have sex
without using a condom. You're at risk of sharing HIV too.
HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.
If your partner's had unprotected sex in the past, you're
unprotected now unless you use a condom. And although HIV
may be the scariest sexually transmitted infection it is
not the only one around. Chlamydia, herpes, gonorrhoea,
syphilis and hepatitis B are all passed on through unprotected
sex. So always use a condom.
Condoms
If you are going to have penetrative sex and you want to
be as protected as possible from HIV, you need to use a
condom.
They are made from very thick, very strong latex.
Nowadays there are as many different types of condoms as
there are kinds of ice creams. Just as with ice cream, you
need to try them to find out, which you like best.
Just as taking clothes off a partner can be sexy, so can
putting on a condom.
Remember
*No matter how desperate you are, having sex is never worth
getting HIV for.
*Do not listen to any one who says it does not feel good
with a condom.
*Carrying a condom does not make you easy; it makes you
smart and mature.
