Lifestylebazaar - a unique exhibition for London Design Week 2009
Lifestylebazaar, in collaboration with Children With Aids Charity (CWAC),
created a truly inspiring exhibition for their Shoreditch store during
2009's London Design Festival. Titled “Losing the Plot”,
eight Louis Ghost chairs designed by Philippe Starck for Kartell were
reinterpreted through the process of customisation by individuals from diverse
creative backgrounds.
Artists and designers to put their own stamp on the chairs included: street artist Pure Evil; tattoo artist Martha Smith; cult product
and furniture design duo Thelermont Hupton; Valentina Gonzalez Wohlers,
Rupert Blanchard, Reiko Kaneko; and Laurent Nurisso, co-owner
of Lifestylebazaar and an interior designer. The eighth chair was customised in-store on the theme of
“Marie Antoinette: Let Them Eat Cake”. The chair was transformed with
colourful cakes, sweets and meringues and photographed by Rosie Day, a talented
photographer studying at Camberwell College. The photograph formed part of the
exhibition and the edible chair itself was presented during the private evening event for guests to snack on!
“Losing the Plot” ran from September 19th to 27th at Lifestylebazaar, 11a Kingsland Road, London E2 8AA

Once the parade had made its way through the town centre it arrived at the park bringing thousands of people with it. The weather was beautiful with a hot sun.
Soon there were people everywhere and many of them were coming by our stall, stopping to ask about our work. We handed out goodie bags of literature and our Inspirational Calendar designed by young people.
There were many colourful outfits and costumes and some people stopped by to say hello (pictured).

June 2006 - SuperCar Run
This article is taken from Canary Wharf City Life magazine July 2006 issue

The text by Mark Gawor reads:
The Supercar Run comes around once a year and is eagerly awaited by
grown men who can’t wait to exercise their new toys. However, the
beneficiaries are Children – Children with AIDS. The Children
With AIDS Charity (CWAC) was established in 1992 by Rebecca Handel
after she contracted HIV from a blood transfusion during her second
pregnancy in Canada, before blood was routinely screened for the HIV
virus. Her daughter was born HIV-positive and for years the family
lived happily but noticed that the child was often severely ill and
took longer to recover from illness than other children. It was not
until Rebecca’s daughter was 9 years old that her illness was
diagnosed and Rebecca found out that she was also infected along with
her husband. In the days when little was understood about the virus,
this remarkable young lady decided that something must be done for
children and families at St Mary’s Hospital in London, Rebecca
co-founded CWAC, a charity to carry on the campaign after her death.
Unfortunately, Rebecca’s daughter died when she was 12 and
Rebecca died a year later. Her husband died leaving their first born
son who was not infected.
The struggle to heighten HIV and AIDS awareness never stops. In spite
of medical advances, children are still being born with HIV and young
people need to know what the risks are and how to protect themselves
– for life.
The children of CWAC depend on the public’s generosity and the
generosity of its sponsors of which the Supercar Club is one. In each
of the last four years in June, the Supercar Club and its members have
raised money for the Charity during a sponsored five day rally through
Europe. This year my co-driver and I navigated our way through Italy
from dawn till dusk with only a series of cryptic instructions to help
us find our way to the next stop. The rally started at Villa D-Este on
Lake Como and we drove via Rimini to Rome, then on to Florence,
Portofino and then back to Como. In all we drove some 1500 miles along
some of the most beautiful roads and mountain passes in Italy stayed at
some of the most glorious hotels and dined on fine food and wine,
enjoying our motor cars, having the opportunity to stretch our legs and
all the time knowing in the backs of our minds that we had raised a
substantial amount of money for CWAC. This year we raised over
£400,000 in sponsorship, donations, and in the auction held
during the gala dinner on the final night. Before the auction,
Rebecca’s mother spoke to us all about the Charity and the work
it does and in 25 years of attending Charity functions and dinners I
have never been in a room where 300 people, half of whom were in
tears listening to her story, gave their absolute undivided attention.
We are most thankful to our main sponsors at the Supercar Club, Credit
Suisse and West Properties. Donations are welcome and can be sent
direct to CWAC .
We eagerly await the Supercar Run 2006, as do the Children of CWAC.

12 June 2006 - Tony Lansley Exhibition

paintings by Tony Tansley, a long time friend of CWAC and founder of
the Red on Red organisation. The Exhibition was held at Bar 104 in
London and a percentage of the profits from the sale of Tony’s
paintings were donated to CWAC. The show continues until the end
of August 2006 for those wishing to view Tony’s work.
We are very grateful to Tony for his continuing support of our work and

6 May 2006 - New Moon Pub Event
Fundraising and Awareness evening for Dagoretti Programme in Kenya.
A
few weeks ago while I was in my local, the New Moon Pub, Lordship Lane,
N17, I was telling people about the children of the Dagoretti Programme
in Nairobi, Kenya. Someone said ‘why not have a night for
the Children in the pub?’ All the money we raise will go to
the Dagoretti Programme, so on 6th May 2006 we held this event.
A lot of items were raffled, such as two bottles of whisky, a bottle of
wine, a box of chocolates and a ladies haircut. All the bottles and
other items were given to us free, so the night did not cost a
penny. Karaoke also took place and many people sang many songs,
and I sang In the Ghetto by Elvis Presley and then someone paid
£10 for me to sing it again! Everyone had a brilliant night!
We took £519.74, this was great for a few hours work. Trisha
Birney, the Manager and Louise Ellis, the Landlady worked hard to hold
this event. The local people gathered round to help and they’re
not rich, as a matter of fact they gave more of their disposable income
than the rich. As it happens some moneyed people did not show their
faces on the night – well, they missed a cheap and fun night out,
and this is my first attempt at this type of thing. I am well chuffed
and feel like we all have achieved something worthwhile.
I hope the New Moon Pub will let me hold this event next year; I will
try to get some more good people to help raise money for Children With
AIDS Charity (CWAC). CWAC has done a tremendous job at this event, and
I want to do more to help CWAC and hope we will have more good times
and build on the team work we showed on the night. Thanks for your help
CWAC and a very special Thank You to all the staff and customers at the
New Moon Pub.
All the money raised from this event will go directly to the Dagorretti
Early Child Education Invention Programme which looks after AIDS
orphans and vulnerable children.
