Job Description
This is a rare opportunity to be an active part of a cutting-edge, national children’s HIV charity, using your entrepreneurial, fundraising, marketing and polished interpersonal skills alongside a committed staff team, an active Board of Trustees and a diverse volunteering network.
The key purpose of the job is to increase levels of income generation, raise the profile of the charity and contribute to the development of CWAC’s fundraising strategy.
The successful post holder will be able to communicate effortlessly with a wide range of supporters, from primary aged school children and disadvantaged young people, to celebrities and government ministers. You will be able to promote the branding and growth of the charity to potential and current donors, supporters and the public in general.
You will be skilled at inspiring and involving volunteers to assist your work whilst your creative skills, initiative, current contacts and networking skills will enable you to conceptualise annual events and turn them into reality.
We’re looking for someone results driven, with an eye for detail and creative flair. You must be flexible, prepared to muck in and able to work outside of normal hours on occasions. The post will be line-managed by the Chief Executive.

Job Specification:
- Management, organisation and conception of fundraising initiatives
- Quarterly fundraising Committee meetings – minutes and agendas
- Assist in developing the fundraising strategy
- Maintenance and promotion of annual diary of events
- Liaison with strategic advertisers, merchandise suppliers, supporters, donors and patrons
- Sourcing new patrons to raise the charity’s profile
- Sourcing auction and raffle items for events and on-line auctions
- Maintaining and developing new relationships with supporters and patrons
- Planning and maintaining a volunteers support strategy for events, marketing, press and fundraising support
- Timely updating of relevant areas of the CWAC website
- Write articles for the quarterly newsletter and assist with editing, production and mailings
- Liaison with journalists (local, national and trade press) in the run up to events
- Maintain detailed records of donations, contact details and contact history
- Develop corporate partnerships for fundraising initiatives
- Develop the pay roll giving strategy and negotiate contracts with professional fundraising companies
- Public speaking and high quality presentations about the charity during events, conferences and public debates
Other Tasks
- Undertake any appropriate work as delegated by the Chief Exec
- Participate and contribute as a part of the CWAC team, taking an active role in department, organisation and shared goals
- Share in CWAC’s values and where possible, support initiatives and activities across the whole organisation
Person Specification:
Essential
- An understanding of and respect for the confidential nature of the charity’s work
- Experience of working in the voluntary sector in a fundraising capacity
- An understanding of the issues concerning people infected or affected by HIV/AIDS – especially those of children and young people
- Knowledge of Charity, Statutory and Corporate fundraising procedures in line with the Institute of fundraising
- People management and development/motivational skills, particularly for working with volunteers
- Attention to detail: able to produce work which is consistently accurate and which fits the purpose for which it was intended
- Communication skills: able to write with accurate spelling and grammar and to speak clearly, confidently and politely
- IT literacy in MS Windows and MS Office
- Time management skills: able to give sufficient time to prepare for important events or meetings and to seek support when demands outweigh available time
- Knowledge of standard voluntary sector governing policies and their application
- Commitment to Equal Opportunities

- Broad, up to date knowledge of key issues within the voluntary sector
- An understanding of diversity and disadvantage
- Analytical skills: able to identify opportunities and risks within a fundraising proposal and seek further opinion where appropriate

- Willingness to occasionally travel outside London to meet key supporters
