Volunteering
for CWAC
Here at CWAC our work comes in many shapes and forms. Much of it is
planned, but much is quite reactive to enquiries and other work that
arises. Our workload is flexible and there can be very busy periods. As
it is often difficult to identify when these periods will
occur, we cannot always know exactly when we may need that extra
help. We are mindful that it is better to provide regular work to keep
volunteers engaged and motivated, but this will not always be possible
at CWAC.
CWAC are able to offer volunteer opportunities to a wide variety of people, e.g.
- students to gain work experience
- people returning to work after a career break, who want some experience before returning to paid employment
- retired people
- employed people who want to offer their work experience to benefit CWAC
- young people who want their voice heard or want to be involved in
If you are able to volunteer on a regular basis (1-3 hours total a week), you could assist with:
- Printing
- Filing
- Photocopying
- Internet research
- Making phone calls to families to ensure they have all the details about a respite trip.
Regular admin support of about 3 hours a week could allow us to provide more respite trips.
If you are able to volunteer on an ad-hoc basis, you could assist with:
- the mail-out of our quarterly newsletter
- preparation for events (as they occur)
- help at events (as they occur)
- updating and extending our website, working with the Office Coordinator
- deliver and collect from venues around London CWAC collection boxes
- write template letters to solicit auctionable items (top
holidays, flights, jewellery, etc)
Applying to be a Volunteer
We encourage people with different work skills and life experience to apply to be a volunteer at CWAC.
Respite Breaks Project
If you are interested in
volunteering as part of our Respite Breaks Project and have experience
or an interest in working with children, please email

If you would like to apply to volunteer for anything other than the Respite Breaks Project, please download a volunteer application form.
Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Checks
Volunteers at CWAC who work
with or might come into contact with children will be subject to a CRB
check. This involves CWAC making a request to the Criminal
Records Bureau who identify candidates who may be unsuitable to work
with children, by conducting checks into any criminal convictions and
other background checks. More information on the CRB website www.crb.gov.uk
