The Battle Against Stigma
These “small” grass-root organisations are integral to the fight against stigma and prejudice in their communities and a great vehicle in mobilising and empowering People Living With HIV/AIDS.
PLWHA are often subjected to long periods of unemployment, discrimination (with no rights to inheritance) and basic lack of motivation, due to psychosocial problems, to generate income to support their families. CWAC international endeavours to set up microfinance for positive parents and caregivers and adopt the “Cash Transfer Programme” (currently being piloted for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) in Kenya by UNICEF - see this presentation for details). This programme is very similar to the CWAC UK Hardship Fund that has been running for over 15 years.
CWAC International conducts needs assessments in endemic areas through interviewing and focus groups with parents living with HIV/AIDS and care-givers of OVCs.
Use Just Giving to help us help them or donate (indicating CWAC international as recipient).
